New York: All Night Diner: Problem First Entrepreneurship Program

All Night Diner brings together a small cohort of alumni from Columbia, Cornell, MIT, and Brown who are interested in entrepreneurship but want to start further upstream than the typical startup program. Applications are open for curious, ambitious people who want to investigate consequential problems and find something worth building.  This is an in-person Bootcamp for alumni of Columbia University, Cornell University, M.I.T., and Brown. Over three months, including nine in-person sessions and ten all-cohort sit-down dinners, participants use a disciplined framework to investigate consequential problem areas of your choosing before deciding what to build. Through secondary research, interviews, observation, and fieldwork, you will work to understand why important bottlenecks persist, what is changing, and where new entrepreneurial opportunities may be emerging.  Sessions combine expert guidance from university-affiliated instructors and coaches, and a cross-university peer cohort of people bringing different backgrounds, expertise, and perspectives to the table. More on affiliated instructors and mentors More about the Alumni Club Collaborative organization Most accelerators help you improve an idea you already have. All Night Diner is designed to help you arrive with a better one. Who Should Apply       ● Prospective founders and experienced operators considering what comes next.       ● Domain experts or researchers interested in starting something new or joining a new venture as a cofounder.       ● Degree-bearing alumni of Columbia, Cornell, MIT, and Brown. A small number of places may be reserved for exceptional applicants from elsewhere. Format & Location: In-person evening sessions at Next Jump in Chelsea. Dates / Schedule: Thursdays, 6–9pm Oct. 28 - Jan 29, with a break over the holidays to be used for fieldwork and some virtual check-ins.

New York: CBS4A - Reclaiming Joy, An Evening with Dr. Judith Joseph

The Columbia Business School African American Alumni Association (4A) and Columbia Business School have partnered to invite alumni and select students to an intimate conversation with Dr. Judith Joseph, a board-certified psychiatrist, researcher, and New York Times bestselling author of High Functioning: Overcome Your Hidden Depression and Reclaim Your Joy, the first book to define High-Functioning Depression (HFD). She holds both an MD and an MBA from Columbia, which makes this a homecoming as much as an author talk. The evening opens with drinks and hors d'oeuvres, giving alumni and students time to connect before the program begins. Dr. Joseph will then join 4A Chair, Rona Edomwonyi, for a fireside chat on High-Functioning Depression: what it is, why it so often goes unnoticed in high achievers, and what it looks like in today's workplace.  For inquiries, please contact CBS Alumni Relations at [email protected].
