The Columbia Business School Distinguished Speaker Series presents a conversation with Refik Anadol, media artist, director, and co-founder of Refik Anadol Studio in Los Angeles. A lecturer in UCLA's Department of Design Media Arts, Anadol has exhibited work at MoMA, the Centre Pompidou, and other leading institutions worldwide. A pioneer in his field and the first to use artificial intelligence in a public artwork, he has collaborated with organizations including Apple, NVIDIA, Intel, IBM, NASA/JPL, MIT, Harvard, and Stanford University to bring cutting-edge science and technology into his art.
Anadol's visit coincides with the installation of Artificial Realities: New York City (2025), part of his ongoing Machine Hallucinations series. Located in the lobby of Henry R. Kravis Hall, the piece reflects the dynamic identity of New York City and the diverse students who shape Columbia each day.
Transforming the space into a site of digital reflection, it provokes questions about the boundaries between data and imagination, city and self, technology and the future of art. This bespoke installation is made possible by Andrew Gundlach '01.
